How to Prepare for Your Outdoor Senior Photo Shoot

WARDROBE:

Part of your photo session will be in your cap and gown. I also recommend bringing at least one or two nice outfits to be photographed in. For the guys, suits are always nice. A casual outfit or sports attire is encouraged too, if you wish.

ACCESSORIES:

When planning your outfits, don’t forget to plan accessories!! Ladies, you may want to incorporate jewelry, scarves, etc. Guys may want to wear a collared shirt and/or tie under the cap and gown. Remember that whatever you wear underneath your cap and gown will show at the neckline in the photos.

IRONING:

We know... it's probably your least favorite thing to do but, do it anyway. All your clothes need to be ironed and pressed for your shoot. The wrinkles will show up in your final images if not. If you are bringing your own cap/gown, make sure you pull your gown out of the packaging a week a head of time so many of the wrinkles will fall out. You may also want to consider ironing your gown as well before the shoot.

GROOMING:

Ladies, hair and makeup is always a good idea. Also, make sure your nails look nice. Your hands will be in some photos. Guys, make sure to come with a clean shave.

PATTERNS:

I typically suggest staying away from patterns and small graphics. Definitely avoid logos and “words” on clothing. If you do wear a pattern, try to keep it neutral and less distracting. We want the focus to be on you!

GATHER AND CLEAN PROPS:

If you want to include a prop in your shoot, musical instruments/cars/bikes should be shiny! If you’re including a pet, give them a bath!

SHOES:

Ladies, for outdoor shoots you will want to bring walking shoes and you can switch into your heels when we are setting up the shot. Also, bring a jacket. It can get chilly! For hot days, consider bringing an umbrella to keep you in the shade.

SNACK AND WATER:

Our shoots can be lengthy, depending on where we are going. Make sure to bring snacks and water for yourself. A "hungry" senior does not look good on camera! :)
